Cyclostratigraphy and Astronomical Forcing of Past Climates II Posters

Session Description:
The astronomical theory of climate change, pioneered by Milankovitch and elaborated upon several times si­nce, connects variations in Earth’s orbit to glacial-interglacial cycles. This theory fails to explain certain features of the geologic past, resulting in mechanisms and feedbacks involved still unclear. As we continue to develop high-resolution globally distributed records questions emerge concerning the pacing of various features of the climate system.

Cyclostratigraphy and astrochronology are reliable tools for constructing a geological time scale. Their integration with paleoclimatology and paleoceanography put important constraints on Earth’s paleoclimate and carbon cycle dynamics under different boundary conditions. Comparing cyclostratigraphic results with astronomic models provides valuable insight into the chaotic dynamical nature of the Solar System in the remote past. This session aims to focus on cyclostratigraphic techniques bringing together proxy-based, theoretical and/or modeling studies focused on global and regional climate responses to astronomical forcing at different time scales in the geologic record.
