Mixing and Reactive Transport Processes in Hydrological Systems Across Scales III Posters

Session Description:
Interactions between (bio)geochemical reactions and hydrodynamic processes (e.g. transport, dispersion and mixing) play a key role in the dynamics of hydrological systems at scales ranging from pores to reservoirs/watersheds. Understanding transport and reaction processes is critical in addressing research questions at the interface of hydrogeology, soil physics, geochemistry, microbiology and critical zone science. This session aims at highlighting recent progress in experimental, numerical and theoretical investigations of these processes in different hydrological environments. We encourage submissions on (1) experiments and field observations of processes such as fluid/mineral interactions, non-Fickian transport, colloid and bacteria transport, mixing of water sources (i.e. surface-/groundwater, saline/fresh water), contaminant migration and storage, CO2 sequestration, biofilm and reactive hotspot formation, coupled reaction and geomechanics, and (2) new modeling approaches that provide mechanistic understanding and predictive capability of mixing and reactive transport processes across scales in presence of heterogeneities, including inverse modeling, hybrid multiscale modelling and upscaling.
