Progress in Biogeochemical Research of the Worlds Large Rivers II

Session Description:
The world’s large rivers discharge freshwater, dissolved solids, and suspended solids to the sea, playing a key role in the physical, chemical, and biological dynamics of coastal and marine systems. The quantity and quality of riverine outflows can be greatly affected by a number of natural and anthropogenic factors in these drainage basins. Since the beginning of the Anthropocene, the Earth has experienced unprecedented changes in climate, population growth, economic development, land use, and land cover. Large rivers are the messengers of the Anthropocene; Quantifying how the most recent geologic era has modified element fluxes from large rivers at a global scale is crucial. This session aims at bringing together the latest research and observations on material transport and biogeochemical processes along the aquatic continuum from river to estuary/coastal waters. We encourage submissions reporting recent findings on the biogeochemistry of carbon, nutrients, and other chemical elements, including their isotopes.
