GC23F:
Integrated Human-Earth Systems Modeling for Vulnerability and Risk Assessment, Adaptation, and Resilience I
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 32501
Session Description:
Reliable science-based information for vulnerability and risk assessment, adaptation, and resilience requires integrated Human-Earth systems models. These models need to accommodate temporal and spatial scales ranging from short-term and local, to long-term and global. The development of models, and analysis of information from these models, requires engagement from many disciplines, including climate science, public policy, engineering, economics, sociology, psychology, communications, infrastructure design, and risk management. This integrated framework for Human-Earth system modeling and science-based knowledge development poses many challenges such as bringing together multiple models across multiple disciplines and engaging the required science, engineering, technology and communication experts, but also offers many opportunities for the these communities to join forces to respond to chronic problems and rapidly emerging needs with science-based actionable information. This session seeks to bring together efforts from the scientific community that seek to address these challenges and opportunities, in the spirit of science serving society.
