Observed and Projected Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources and Agriculture I

Session Description:
As the world’s population continues to grow, there are increased demands on limited food and water resources. Changes in global and regional climate patterns may disrupt local weather patterns, alter the frequency and duration of dry and wet spells, and affect precipitation variability. These climate variations may adversely affect food and water security, especially in semi-arid regions of the tropics and sub-tropics. This session will focus on observed and projected changes to all aspects of the hydrologic cycle and attendant impacts on agricultural systems, water resources and management, and food security issues and implications. We encourage submissions on: (i) research exploring observed and projected hydrologic changes, (ii) the implications of recent droughts for food supplies, availability, and food security, (iii) research exploring how climate influences food supplies, prices, and stability, and (iv) the implications of increased air temperatures on agricultural, social and economic systems and/or conflict.
