Session Description:
This session will focus on the science, technology, and policy issues of renewable energy with a special focus on solar, marine, wave, current, and tidal energy conversion. Solar renewable energy is a critical part of the discussion as the Earth’s land, water, energy and food needs are being reconsidered to support stability and sustainability. The Earth Sciences plays a large role in identifying locations for optimal solar use, and the reliability and the effects of solar power. Studies focusing on environmental effects of marine hydrokinetic energy devices risk evaluation, and uncertainty are all of interest. Studies in riverine environments and of wave-energy converters are also appropriate. This session welcomes all Earth Sciences research as it pertains to solar and hydro renewable energy, energy transmission and the impacts of renewable energy on the environment. This session is coordinated with the other session on renewable energy focusing on Wind (GC065).
