Earthquake Source: From the Laboratory to the Field II

Session Description:
The opportunity to study earthquakes under controlled conditions in the laboratory is unique and has, in recent years, helped advance of our understanding of earthquake source physics. This session aims at integrating recent experimental observations along with field, seismological and numerical studies. We invite 1) experimental studies on slow to fast fracture and frictional processes in rocks, granular materials and/or laboratory analogs, 2) seismological studies on the earthquake source energy budget and partitioning between fracture, friction and elastic wave radiation, 3) numerical simulations of earthquake source processes during propagation and/or interactions during the seismic cycle, and 4) field scale studies of the role played by fluids, transient perturbations, and mineralogy on earthquake triggering in shallow, deep and volcanic environments. This session is aimed at the interdisciplinary frontiers of seismology, tectonics, rock mechanics, volcanology, and mineralogy.
