Induced Seismicity in the United States and Canada II

Session Description:
The increased awareness of man-made earthquakes around the world has generated an intensive research effort to understand seismicity caused by fluid movement in the Earth’s brittle crust. Waste water disposal and hydraulic fracturing appear to be the main two causes of induced seismicity in the United States and Canada. Globally, reservoir triggered seismicity continues to be a major concern. Process based modeling of fluid induced seismicity at multiple scales and in various regions is contributing to our understanding of the mechanisms and hazard of anthropogenic seismicity. This session features contributions related to induced and triggered seismicity based on case studies, geomechanics, numerical modelling, laboratory experiments, ground motion prediction, statistical and quantitative methods and seismic hazard assessment.
