Session Description:
Air pollution is one of the biggest environmental concern as poor air quality is estimated to cause about 7 million premature deaths and destroy food sufficient to feed millions of people worldwide every year. These adverse effects of air pollution can be minimized by providing early notices and warning to individuals and groups vulnerable to air pollution through operational air quality predictions in the short-term and by designing efficient emission control strategies in the long-term. This session focuses on three key aspects namely monitoring, analysis and prediction of air quality at urban to regional and global scales, and invites studies focused on all key elements of air quality prediction systems including emission inventory development and evaluation, chemical transport model set-up and evaluation over different parts of the world, ingestion of observations into the models through data assimilation and post-processing of model output to reduce biases and improve decision-making.
