A13L:
Observational Studies of East Asian Air Quality: Constraints on Emissions, Chemistry, and Transport III
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 33329
Session Description:
This session welcomes submissions bringing insight into the factors controlling air quality from local-to-regional scales across East Asia through the interpretation of ground-based and airborne observations using models and other analytical techniques. The degradation of air quality over East Asia has been broadly documented by satellite observations of increased trace gas and particle emissions related to growing economic activity and energy demands. In recent years, the proliferation of air quality monitors for fine particles and ozone have led to much greater information on the distribution and timing of air quality episodes. Fully understanding the problem, however, requires detailed atmospheric observations using in situ and remote sensing techniques to characterize and disentangle diverse source signatures, observe precursors and chemical intermediates to constrain secondary pollutant formation, and provide information upwind and downwind of source regions to separate local and transboundary influences.
