Linking Catchment Biogeochemistry and Hydrology to Understand Freshwater Landscapes in the Anthropocene II Posters

Session Description:
Understanding how water, solutes, and particulates enter and propagate through freshwater systems is critical to protecting aquatic habitats and ensuring human water security. Different branches of catchment science have recently made great strides towards understanding the hydrology, ecology, and geochemistry of freshwater landscapes, but important disciplinary divides still limit our ability to predict and manage these systems. This session invites contributions from catchment hydrologists, biogeochemists, and ecologists addressing transport and transformation of water and material in aquatic ecosystems. How can headwater streams, which represent the vast majority of river habitats, be integrated into monitoring strategies? How can high-frequency water quality monitoring be integrated with other, non-uniform data sources (e.g. occasional synoptic sampling, water quality data collected by government agencies)? How do aggregation effects alter observed patterns of ecohydrological functioning moving from headwaters to larger catchments? How can time lags in water and material movement be exploited to reveal system behaviour?
