Research Integrity, Reproducible Science, and Quantifying Return on Investment in Data and Software Management I Posters

Session Description:
Research integrity, reproducibility, and future scientific discoveries depend on data and software management practices that support data and software preservation and reuse. Significant effort is required for data and software to achieve the same level of rigor and documentation that scientists practice on the research itself. Justifying this effort requires some return on investment for the data producer. This can be provided through professional recognition for data publication and curation, and via metrics that can demonstrate the impact of openly accessible data and software objects. However, data and software do not currently receive the same level of recognition as other research products. Data centers, data managers, and researchers need guidance to best allocate limited resources and to demonstrate to stakeholders the overall value provided. This session will explore existing best practices for data stewardship and data and software citation, the value of and challenges to adoption of these practices.
