Late Quaternary Hydroclimate of the Americas: Paleorecords and Model Simulations I

Session Description:
Climate across the Americas is influenced by a range of climatic systems, including the westerlies at higher latitudes and monsoonal dynamics at lower latitudes. These systems are linked in part by their connectivity and response to ocean-atmosphere dynamics in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. With the increasing number of high-resolution hydroclimate records from the Americas and the development of sophisticated paleoclimate models, it is increasingly possible to investigate expressions and mechanisms of regional and inter-hemispheric climate variability in the Americas. For this session, we seek contributions from proxy based and climate modeling investigations of late Quaternary hydroclimate variability in the Americas (low, mid and high latitudes), including its spatial expressions, magnitude, and mechanisms, in order to promote the discussion and synthesis of recent findings. Contributions that explore the spatial patterns and magnitude of hydrological changes over a range of latitudes during the late Quaternary are especially encouraged.
