Analysis in Remote Sensing, Novel Data Streams, and Social Media for Natural Hazard Monitoring, Research, and Preparedness I

Session Description:
Recent scientific advancements enable new capabilities to acquire near-real time Earth data from space-borne, air-borne and ground based measurements. Access to novel information streams, including social media, are redefining situation awareness. These streams are diverse, complex and overwhelming in volume, velocity and variety of viewpoints. The increasing quantity of these data and information presents a challenge to those studying hazardous events from a scientific perspective or aim to build community resilience. New solutions have been developed to store, increase the usability of, analyze, interpret and redistribute these multi-modal datasets to support assessment, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. This session seeks contributions to build capacity among users presenting the usage of data and cyberinfrastructure for natural hazards. The presented work may include, but is not limited to: web applications and platforms, high performance computing, cloud computing, remote sensing, data recipes, citizen science efforts, GIS applications, information curation and standardized methodologies.
