Terrestrial-Aquatic Linkages in the Context of Land Use/Land Cover Change: Contemporary and Legacy Effects on Physical and Biogeochemical River Processes I

Session Description:
Land use/land cover change strongly influences biogeochemical and physical processes in both aquatic and terrestrial systems. The effects of human activity on aquatic systems are modified as they propagate through space and time, making it difficult to generate process-based understanding of human impacts on aquatic biogeochemical and physical processes. That said, to predict how human land use and management may affect current and future physical and biogeochemical river processes, it is crucial to understand both current and historic human influences across a range of environments, from expanding cities to areas of intensive agricultural production. This session seeks to provide a forum for research exploring terrestrial-aquatic linkages between land use/land cover change and related contemporary and legacy effects on water quality and quantity. We encourage discussion of work that spans the terrestrial to aquatic continuum, and welcome a diversity of approaches, including data synthesis, field-based research, and process-based modeling
