Session Description:
Ultraviolet spectroscopy and imaging have proven to be invaluable techniques for planetary science studies, and in recent years have demonstrated their diverse potential for discoveries. Insights from UV observations of solar system surfaces have been gained, including studies of surface composition, space weathering effects and volatiles on asteroids, the Moon, comet nuclei and icy satellites, as well as investigations of plumes and thin atmospheres (e.g. at Enceladus, Io, Europa). Valuable UV observations of planetary atmospheres and aurorae have been performed for decades and continue in the current era. A number of UV instruments have flown or are flying on spacecraft, and more will do so in coming years. In this session, abstracts covering UV observations of solar system targets and exoplanets are welcome, as are abstracts discussing lab measurements, modeling results and advances in UV technologies. Those abstracts focusing on solid surfaces (i.e. airless bodies) are particularly encouraged.
