Utilizing Long-Term Precipitation Data Records for Understanding Climate Extremes I

Session Description:
The nature of precipitation extremes through time poses many questions related to flood risk, agricultural sustainability, municipal and industrial water supply, and characterization of climate change. A wide collection of tools and observations are currently available to address these questions. This session welcomes abstracts that employ long-term precipitation datasets including (among others) gauge observations, climate data records, Reanalyses products, as well as climate models’ historical simulations and future projections to study the behavior of precipitation extremes both in space and time at local, regional, and global scales. Invited to contribute to this session are abstracts that utilize long-term precipitation data records to investigate extreme precipitation foci including:

Changes in frequency, trends, duration, and intensity over time

Validation studies

Multi-dataset comparisons

Event-based analyses for floods and droughts

Impacts of large-scale climate signals (e.g., ENSO, PDO)
