Session Description:
Properties of the shallow subsurface are governed by interactions physical, biological, and geochemical processes occurring in a highly heterogeneous and variably saturated media. Accurate characterization of subsurface continues to be a challenge. Continuous development of methods in the fields of hydrology, hydrogeology, and geophysics is essential to further improve the understanding, monitoring and modeling of subsurface properties. The information from geophysical and hydrologic methods offers a powerful way to characterize sites at multiple scales.
This session provides an overview of novel advances in characterizing subsurface transport properties and dynamic processes with geophysical and hydrologic techniques, and newly developed medical imaging techniques. We encourage contributions on time-lapse monitoring and imaging, emission tomography, radionuclide detection, heat and solute tracer experiments, aquifer characterization with traditional and direct-push technologies, and emerging methods from the fields of biogeophysics and hydrogeophysics. Case studies and instrumentation covering laboratory, field or catchment scales are encouraged.
