People and Pixels 20th Anniversary: Advances in the Use of Remote Sensing in Social Science, Public Health, and Air Quality Applications II Posters

Session Description:
In the twenty years since the publication of People and Pixels: Linking Remote Sensing and Social Science (NRC, 1998) there have been many advances in social science and health applications of remote sensing due to the growing array of social science and satellite data sources and access to computational cyberinfrastructure for the analysis of large spatio-temporal datasets. Simultaneously, as long term changes in the Earth’s climate and environment have begun to have real impacts on public health and air quality, the ability to model potential health outcomes has improved. This session will showcase current trends in health and air quality applications as well as land cover and hazards research through an exploration of satellite, socioeconomic and biophysical data. It will also explore Geohealth and how using NASA data benefits health providers/researchers who need environmental data to study and understand the geographic, environmental, and meteorological differences in disease.
