Elastic and Transport Properties of Core and Mantle Materials II Posters

Session Description:
Understanding the properties of mantle and core materials, such as sound velocity, thermal and electrical conductivity, diffusivity and viscosity at extreme conditions is essential for modeling of the internal structure of planets. In particular, knowledge of elastic and transport properties allows the
translation of variations in seismic velocities laterally and vertically to the composition, temperature
and dynamics of the deep Earth. Additionally, constraints on the major element abundances,
oxidation state, deep volatile budget, light element content, temperature, and dynamics of planetary
mantles and cores require precise knowledge of the elastic and transport properties of planetary
materials at high-pressures and temperatures. In order to construct a self-consistent database for
the broader geophysics community, it is important to cross-validate the results of elastic and
transport properties from different experimental and computational techniques. This multi-disciplinary
session invites contributions from experimental, theoretical and observational studies that contribute
towards building models of the structure and dynamics of the interiors of Earth and other planetary
bodies.
