What Determines Planetary Habitability, and What Biosignatures Might We Expect? II Posters

Session Description:
This session addresses what a planet needs to enable life as we know it to thrive, what are the biosignatures of life, and how might we recognize them? Is a solar-type star required? Does a planet need a magnetic field to sustain an atmosphere? Which exoplanets are most likely to sustain a habitable atmosphere? In order to recognize life when we find it, it is particularly vital to distinguish signatures of abiotic from biotic processes: on Earth, when biology is involved, trace elements are often found in chemical disequilibrium with their surroundings, such terrestrial analogs may be applied in our search for life in the solar system and beyond. What potential biosignatures have been observed? What new studies, terrestrial analogs, and observations are required to understand if these are biosignatures? How might they be detected with future missions? And where should we go to look?
