H13R:
Pore-Scale Flow and Transport in Porous Media: Recent Experimental and Modeling Advances I

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 34718

Session Description:
Flow and transport in porous media is central to a range of applications in the energy and environmental sectors such as CO2 sequestration, enhanced oil recovery, unconventional oil and gas production, and contaminant transport in saturated and unsaturated zones. It is increasingly recognized that better understanding of pore-scale processes is critical to accurate modeling of large-scale flow and transport. In this regard, experimental, modeling, and theoretical efforts go hand in hand aiming to develop better macroscopic descriptions. In this session, we broadly invite presentations on novel experimental, theoretical, and modeling techniques for measuring, computing, predicting, visualizing, benchmarking, and quantifying pore-scale processes. Topics include, but not limited to, single/multiphase flow displacement, interfacial and wettability dynamics, reactive transport with/without dissolution/precipitation. Submissions that address computational and other challenges in linking the pore scale to large scales are especially welcome.
