Physical Properties of Earth Materials (PPEM): The Rheology and Processes of Transient and Steady State Rock Deformation III
Session ID#: 34741
Session Description:
The session will focus on deformation processes, rheology and constitutive laws for fracture, friction, ductile flow and rock strength at all scales. We welcome results from experiment, theory, and field studies. We seek submissions focused on tectonic processes as well as anthropogenically-triggered deformation, such as induced seismicity. Of particular interest are studies that illuminate the geophysical, macro-scale expression of microscale deformation processes from asperities and fractures to crystallographic defects and phase interactions. This PPEM session will integrate perspectives from the scale of plate boundary fault zones, to mineral grains, to atomic dimensions.
