Comparative Disturbance Hydrology: Hydrologic and Geomorphic Effects of Wildland Fire and Other Disturbances from Point to Regional Scales I

Session Description:
In the face of increasing extent and rate of landscape disturbance across the globe, a comparative disturbance hydrology approach is valuable for ensuring ecosystem service security. This session explores similarities and differences between hydrologic and geomorphic responses to wildfire and other landscape disturbances using a comparative approach. We seek to improve conceptual and predictive models of the impacts of disturbance on ecosystem services across provisioning (e.g. water supply), regulating (e.g. natural hazard protection), and supporting (e.g. soil formation) functions. Key to this improvement is cross-scale analysis comparing and synthesizing results from disturbed watersheds from point to regional scales. A broad range of approaches including field and laboratory studies, remote sensing analysis, and numerical modeling is essential for this comparative approach. We seek submissions that characterize individual or multiple landscape disturbances at single or multiple locations across regions. Efforts that interface with water, land, and disaster management are encouraged.
