Advances in Biomagnetism, Magnetic Proxy Parameters, and Authigenesis and Diagenesis of Magnetic Minerals I

Session Description:
Magnetic minerals are sensitive to a broad spectrum of natural processes. In sediments, microbial and abiotic processes have an important influence on the magnetic mineral assemblage and paleomagnetic signal by newly forming (e.g. biomineralization of magnetic minerals) and/or altering pre-existing magnetic minerals. How to identify and assess these authigenetic and diagenetic magnetic minerals as well as their influence on paleoenvironmental and paleomagnetic records of sediments are essential. Magnetic proxy parameters can serve a wide variety of geoscience applications. The intricacies of paleomagnetic signals can be unraveled using magnetic property analysis to provide key geological information. This session solicits contributions on bio-geomagnetism, the use of magnetic proxy parameters and diagenesis of magnetic minerals. Broad range applications, interdisciplinary studies, experimental investigation, theoretical simulation and new techniques improving our understanding of these topics are welcome.
