Session Description:
Environmental and earth science data are collected by a large number of projects and organizations, in both public and private sectors. The associations between published data, interpretations of data published in the literature, and samples as the underlying ground truth, are often ambiguous. This fragmentation imposes significant costs on projects.

Linked Data can be studied using Network science, which is an academic field which studies complex networks considering distinct elements or actors represented by nodes and the connections between the elements or actors as links. Using networks can help view existing information systems from a purely mathematical perspective, and infer new relationships or new information about existing relationships.

This session will discuss the current state of the art in environmental science data access, use and publication using modern web principles, as well as new ways of applying Network Analysis, to solve existing problems in all areas of Earth Science.
