Innovative Visualization Technologies for Earth and Space Science Applications II: General Topics

Session Description:
Data visualization is a rapidly evolving field, offering new approaches to explore scientific data. Emerging technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality (VR/AR) are being explored as effective, intuitive, and compelling methods for visualizing multidimensional geospatial datasets to enhance research, exploration and analysis. The ability to visualize Earth and planetary science data within these new environments allows users to “see” data differently and glean new insights relating to structures and geometries, multivariate correlations and relationships, statistical quantities, and geophysical processes. The tools and platforms available for producing scientific visualizations offer many choices that come with advantages and disadvantages. We must ensure that the visualizations we develop are accurate, useful, and informative, while taking into account ease of use, cost of implementation, data and software compatibility, and community preferences. This session invites presentations focused on new and innovative work in data visualization in support of the Earth and Space sciences.
