Session Description:
X-ray computed tomography (CT) scanning relies on x-ray absorption images to generate tomographic volumes. Its application spans many fields, from biological to material sciences. In earth sciences applications, x-ray CT scans have been used to map rock samples to infer porosity and pore structures, which can then be used in digital rock simulations for the purpose of digitally predicting subsurface transport properties. This session seeks contributions that explore the latest advances in imaging techniques such as x-ray CT, SEM, FIB-SEM, among others to create digital analog of rock samples and use the digital information to infer hydrological processes. In particular, we are interested in contributions that quantify the limitations of the imaging techniques as well as the accuracy and the precision of the numerically obtained properties as compared to laboratory measurements.
