Under Pressure: Understanding the Storage, Activation, and Transport Processes in Magmatic Systems II

Session Description:
The dynamics of magmatic systems is strongly influenced by pressure. Pressure controls the circulation of magma; the opening of fractures in the crust; the exsolution of volatiles; the texture and composition of crystals; and, of course, the onset, duration, and characteristics of volcanic eruptions. Pressure changes also induce variations in monitoring data (e.g., ground deformation, seismicity, gravity, gas emissions) used to forecast eruptions and mitigate volcanic hazard. This session aims to bring together those who address the pressure of magmatic systems from storage to eruption by using field or geophysical observations, and theoretical, experimental or numerical models. We welcome contributions addressing magma dynamics, its relationships to physical and chemical properties, and its bearing on the geochemical, geophysical and petrological observables recorded at the surface. This session is process-oriented, and it aims to trigger cross-disciplinary interactions, to fully unravel the complex processes beneath, within and upon volcanoes.
