Session Description:
Coastal wetlands play an important role in global carbon cycling because of the vast amounts of organic matter in their soils. In addition to significantly influencing carbon-climate feedbacks, wetlands provide productive basal carbon sources that fuel coastal food webs. Alterations in environmental conditions, such as temperature, salinity and flooding, due to direct human modifications and climate change are likely to change the structure and function of these wetland ecosystems, affecting carbon sources, sequestration and flux rates as well as emissions. We invite presentations on subjects that range from fluxes to food webs that advance our understanding of how carbon cycling processes in coastal wetlands are affected by environmental change.
