Climate Variability and Ocean–Atmosphere Interaction over the North Atlantic I Posters

Session Description:
Climate variability in the North Atlantic has far-reaching consequences. However, the mechanisms that cause this variability remain an active area of research. For example, studies suggest that models misrepresent the ocean-atmosphere heat exchanges, thereby underestimating internal variability. The relative roles of tropical and extratropical SSTs in driving variability are also uncertain. In this session, we welcome observational and modeling studies investigating North Atlantic variability in the past, current and future climate. Contributions on the following topics are encouraged:
1. The role of local atmosphere-ocean-sea ice coupling in North Atlantic climate variability (e.g., AMV, AMOC, Gulf stream, tripolar SST pattern)
2. Climatic impacts of North Atlantic variability on sea ice, hurricanes, precipitation, including interactions between the North Atlantic and other oceans
3. Understanding North Atlantic climate change from paleoclimate
4. Internal versus forced variability and implications for future projections
5. Predictability
