PP11D:
Paleoclimate Variability in the Indo-Pacific Region Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 43976

Session Description:
The Indo-Pacific plays a critical role in global climate and yet for such a vitally important region, there are relatively few long term or continuous records. Many outstanding questions exist regarding the impact of Indo-Pacific circulation on the climate and environment of surrounding landmasses, with special focus on the Asian and Australasian monsoons. Recent research efforts, including several IODP and ICDP expeditions focusing on the Indo-Pacific, aim to better understand the complex oceanographic and paleoclimate history of this region.

This session encourages contributions with a multidisciplinary approach. Contributions explore geological and oceanographic proxies applied to elucidate the history of the eastern Indian Ocean and the western Pacific on timescales from the Neogene to the present. These include reconstructions of paleoclimatology, paleoceanography, paleoecology and continental erosion/weathering based on marine, lacustrine and terrestrial records using new approaches in sedimentology, isotope geochemistry, modelling and paleontology.
