IN33F:
JPSS: Providing Advanced Global Observations to Improve Knowledge and Decisions by a Global Interconnected Community II Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 44428

Session Description:
To connect a global community with the valuable information needed to make life saving decisions in response to extreme weather and environmental changes, a sustained global observing system is needed providing observations which are free, open and transparent with uninterrupted data access and the tools and training to empower the community to make informed decisions.   The Joint Polar Satellite System's Proving Ground and Risk Reduction Initiatives program works with its user community to optimize and evaluate the operational applications of JPSS data, products and capabilities in meeting their mission requirements.  There are eight JPSS Initiatives:  Sounding, Fire and Smoke, Arctic, River Ice and Flooding, Hydrology, Oceans and Coastal, Severe Weather, and Aviation.  Presentations will focus on examples of how these initiatives encouraged the necessary actions needed to assist agencies in their response to severe events such as: floods, wildfires, tropical cyclones, volcanic eruptions, and severe convective weather.
