Session ID#: 45181

Session Description:
A few decades ago, the status of lake research was equated to that of the hole in a doughnut (Collinson 1978). During the last decades a rapid advance in understanding physical, chemical, and biological processes in lacustrine systems lead to a better understanding of how these processes affect the preservation of environmental information in sedimentary sequences. Today, it is widely accepted that lakes offer significant contributions to Earth sciences as environmental archives in general. In this session, we welcome contributions from all investigations related to lake research such as paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic reconstructions, anthropogenic impact studies, methodological approaches, extreme and catastrophic events, mass balances surveys, paleomagnetic studies, the reconstruction of sediment geometries and morphostratigraphies using geophysical data etc.
