Session Description:
The composition of Earth’s building blocks and the processes by which its interior and crust have evolved exert fundamental controls on the geodynamic and geochemical evolution of the planet. While recent analytical developments have led to high-precision isotope analyses that are revolutionizing our understanding of these processes, identifying Earth’s precursors and unraveling how its poorly-mixed interior developed remain unclear. Related processes include main-stage accretion, the Moon-forming event, core segregation, mantle crystallization and overturn, late accretion, and crust formation/destruction. This session calls on studies that focus on deciphering Earth’s accretionary history and long-term crust-mantle evolution. In particular, research that integrates cutting-edge isotope ratio analyses (stable or radiogenic) of cosmo- or geo-chemical materials, with geodynamical modelling, seismology, or experimental petrology.
