Session Description:
Accurately obtaining the strength of paleomagnetic fields (paleointensity) from Earth and extraterrestrial bodies is a key objective for studying many Earth and planetary processes, such as the thermal evolution of the core of Earth and planets, the formation and evolution of the early solar system, the formation and crystallization of the inner core and the possibility of an upcoming geomagnetic field reversal. This session welcomes contributions, which present high-quality absolute or relative paleointensity estimates that allow us to better understand Earth and planetary magnetic processes. We especially welcome contributions that develop new experimental techniques and analytical approaches to help us better estimate paleointensities. We also welcome (but not limited to) rock magnetic, microscopic and petrological studies that aid us to obtain accurate paleointensities, especially dealing with thermal alteration and multidomain effects for absolute paleointensities, and normalization issues for relative paleointensities.
