Session Description:
Climate change is one of the world’s most pressing issues, but polls show that many people do not prioritize the environment, actively deny climate change’s occurence, or are disinterested in policy solutions to climate change. Research consistently shows that knowledge deficits only partially explain public apathy towards climate change, prompting further research into how to best communicate its urgency and severity. This session aims to provide scientists with strategies for translating their research, engaging publics, and communicating climate change across a variety of contexts. In addition to using social media, adapting research for public talks, interfacing with local community groups and policy makers, this session also addresses best practices in the classroom. This session invites research and presentations from climate communicators, scientists who have adopted best practices for communicating about climate, teachers of climate science, and climate journalists to gather a wide scope of public engagement with climate change.
