Advancements in Measurement of Snow Water Equivalent Using Coincident Ground and Airborne Data Posters

Session Description:
Accurate measurement of snow-water equivalent (SWE) enables improved management of freshwater resources and enhances our understanding of the Earth’s weather and climate. However reliable satellite-based remote sensing of SWE remains elusive. In order to improve techniques for accurately sensing SWE across the globe, several coincident ground and airborne snow measurement campaigns have taken place recently in many different countries (a non-exhaustive list includes SnowEx, CLPX, NoSREx, AlpSAR, TVCEx). All had a common goal of improving SWE measurement using a multi-sensor approach combined with modeling. Consequently, the conveners solicit papers on results and lessons learned from past measurement campaigns, and potential synergies required to improve campaigns planned in the near future. In addition, papers that use any combination of modelling, remote sensing and in-situ studies with a focus for improved measurement and/or modelling of SWE and snow energy balance are strongly encouraged.
