Session Description:
Non-hydrocarbon natural gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and helium are increasingly important economic commodities. These gases are also integral to academic efforts in climate sciences, and in igneous and deep crustal research. These natural resources are often understood only at the local site scale. We seek studies on the sourcing, migration, and eventual accumulation of non-hydrocarbon gases at an overarching gas system level. Compositional and other geochemical analyses, such as noble gas isotopes, from geothermal features, natural springs, and wells can provide valuable information to support gas typing and system extent mapping. Geological and structural studies that refine understanding of migration pathways, trapping structures, and reservoir seals for natural gas systems are also solicited.
