Indian Ocean Dynamics Past and Present: Significance for Ocean Circulation and Terrestrial Climate Posters

Session Description:
The Indian Ocean has a unique geography, as it is the only major ocean basin not open to the northern subtropical regions and it has a low-latitude ocean gateway in its eastern boundary. These features have important implications for the physical, biogeochemical, and ecological processes of the ocean and as a result, the Indian Ocean is believed to have played an important role in the variation of regional and global climate systems at a range of timescales over the Cenozoic. This session welcomes contributions that address Indian Ocean dynamics and change, based on palaeoclimate reconstructions, instrumental observations and modelling. In particular, studies that address the interactions between physical, biogeochemical, and ecological processes in the Indian Ocean, interactions/exchanges between it and other oceanic basins as well as regional land-ocean interactions are encouraged.   Of particular relevance are results from the recent regionally-focused scientific drilling (IODP) expeditions in the Indian Ocean.
