Advances in Understanding Calcareous Nannofossil Response to Climate Change in Modern and Ancient Oceans Posters

Session Description:
Coccolithophores, single-celled phytoplankton that produce CaCO3 shields called coccoliths, have been major contributors to the marine ecosystem and global biogeochemical cycles since the Triassic Period. Predicted fluctuations in ocean carbonate chemistry related to modern climate change have raised questions about the ability of this group to adapt to these changing oceanic conditions. To address these questions, it is necessary to document calcareous nannoplankton assemblage variations and morphologic responses from geologically different intervals as well as in different oceanic environments today. Understanding calcareous nannofossil response to changing oceanographic parameters is critical for all paleo/oceanographic investigations. The goal of this session is to show advances in the state-of-the-art knowledge of calcareous nannofossil sensitivity to changing paleo/oceanographic conditions in modern and ancient climate variations. Scientists, students as well as industrial biostratigraphers are welcome to present research related to this topic.
