PA13B:
Addressing Societal Challenges Through Science Diplomacy Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 47238

Session Description:
Water security, global environmental change, and disaster risks are few societal challenges humanity faces today. These challenges cannot be effectively addressed by any one academic discipline, an institution, or a nation, but rather require international, interdisciplinary, and multi-stakeholder efforts. Science diplomacy emphasizes the importance of inclusive and international expert collaborations to solve common problems. The first step in finding sustainable solutions to today’s most pressing challenges is to accurately identify and assess their underlying drivers and impacts. Comprehensive assessments require combined resources and knowledge across different academic disciplines, including social sciences, combined with non-academic expertise, such as practitioner’s experience and local knowledge. The next step is to implement the assessments as evidence to inform relevant domestic and international policies. Both steps require continuous communication and collaborative partnerships between diverse stakeholders. We encourage abstracts that demonstrate advantages and challenges of science diplomacy on inter-national, intra-national, and local levels.
