The Coral Reef Ecosystem: Observation, Configuration, and Communication at the Intersection of Art and Science Posters

Session Description:
Art and science have much in common, each with the power to inform about our natural world and climate change in particular. Thus, aside from a general poster summarizing the group discussion, along with particular scientific posters, ones from the Sandin Lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Coral Reef Watch Program at NOAA, and the Earth Observatory of Singapore, there will also be two artist presentations. Ceramic artist Marguerita Hagen who will exhibit and discuss some actual objects inspired by her oceanic studies.  Artist Diane Burko will share her new book, Endangered: from Glaciers to Reefs,which highlights the current exhibition on view at the National Academy of Sciences.  This session serves as an introduction to the associated panel presented in a Town Hall which includes a senior scientific advisor to the film Chasing CORAL along with the scientists and artists presenting at the poster session.
