A53L:
Role of Ocean–Atmosphere Interaction in Regional Climate Variability and Change III Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 49218
Session Description:
Climate variability and change on regional scales spanning time scales from subseasonal to multidecadal is crucial for many scientific and societal needs. Uncertainties in the estimates of climate variability are much higher on regional scales compared to those on global scale and are often associated with dynamical processes such as storm tracks, jet streams, and teleconnections. These uncertainties can be reduced through a better understanding of how the atmosphere interacts with the other components of the Earth’s climate system. These interactions occur on the basin-scale and on smaller scales of the oceanic eddies and atmospheric frontal systems. This session aims to consider impacts of air-sea interaction onto regional climate variability and change and to quantify regional responses, thus contributing to a better understanding of predictability of regional climate. We welcome observational, numerical and theoretical studies that address the impact of ocean-atmosphere interaction on climate variability and change on regional scales.
