A33J:
Atmospheric Monitoring from Space: The Copernicus S5P and Suomi NPP Constellation I Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 49361
Session Description:
The Sentinel-5 Precursor (S-5P), launched October 13, 2017, is the first of a series of atmospheric chemistry missions launched within the European Commission’s Copernicus Programme. S-5P operates in loose formation with the NASA/NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) satellite; both satellites have a sun-synchronous orbit (13:30 local equator crossing time) with a temporal separation of 3 to 5 minutes.
S-5P and S-NPP provide unique complementary spatial, temporal and spectral sampling measurement capabilities for detecting regional and global changes on trace gases, clouds and aerosol properties. Furthermore, the development of synergistic S-5P and S-NPP retrieval algorithms and data products will enable novel scientific applications.
