A33G:
Advances in Methods and Technologies for Emissions Monitoring and Exposure Assessment to Hazardous Air Pollutants I Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 49650

Session Description:
Technological advancements of the past decade offer great promise for air quality applications. Modern optical remote sensing technologies, mass-balance methods, tracer release techniques, and “low-cost” sensor networks are being routinely used in emissions monitoring and exposure evaluation studies. These technologies enable near real-time emissions monitoring and exposure assessment to hazardous air pollutants (HAP) with unprecedented temporal- and spatial resolution. These approaches therefore offer the promise of monitoring emissions from industrial facilities and their impact on neighboring communities, as now required by California Assembly Bill 617 signed into law in July 2017. Furthermore, more accurate information on site-specific emissions can better explain discrepancies between observations and bottom-up estimates of emission inventories. Ultimately these data can inform effective policy decisions. This session solicits observational, technical and theoretical contributions that provide insights into the application of novel and well-established methods for emissions quantification and exposure evaluations.
