PP41E:
Carbonate Sediments Through Time: Processes of Deposition and Diagenesis IV Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 49673
Session Description:
Carbonate sediments and sedimentary rocks record complex interactions of chemical, biological, and physical processes involved in the precipitation, transport, and diagenesis of sedimentary particles. Changing conditions in surface and shallow subsurface environments can significantly affect the myriad processes involved in carbonate petrogenesis that are preserved in rock fabrics and chemistry. This session will focus on process-based approaches to the modes of genesis and diagenesis of carbonate sedimentary rocks over geologic time, incorporating methods from process sedimentology, biogeochemistry, marine and microbial ecology, biomineralization, carbonate stratigraphy and petrography, and fluid-flow characterization. We welcome contributions applying field, petrographic, geochemical, and/or experimental methods to characterize the mechanisms and environments of carbonate deposition and diagenesis over Earth history.
