A41J:
Deep-Space Earth Observations II Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 49718

Session Description:
The Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) located near the Earth’s L1 point is monitoring the solar wind and observing the Earth with two sensors.  NISTAR measures radiative fluxes of the entire dayside Earth and EPIC measures 10-channel spectral radiative characteristics at 10-15 km resolution.  The unique near backscatter perspective of DSCOVR is used in science applications to measure ozone, sulfur dioxide, aerosols, cloud height, vegetation properties, and for UV radiation estimates.  The first Earth science DSCOVR products have been released.  The session will focus on the novel perspective of DSCOVR products obtained from deep space.  It will discuss how DSCOVR measurements complement existing data from low Earth and geostationary orbit observations. Particular attention is paid to observations of aerosol and sulfur dioxide transport, photosynthesizing systems, and to the role of the diurnal distribution of clouds on Earth’s radiation budget.
