Planning for Extremes and Long-Term Change in the Built Environment: Scientist–Stakeholder Research and Engagement Posters

Session Description:
Many countries have been affected by increasing intensity of extreme events thus pushing communities to rethink how they prepare for storms, wildfire, heat waves, drought, and flooding.  Some scientists are working hand-in-hand with cities, states, and regional bodies to co-develop research questions, knowledge and tools to help communities more effectively prepare for extremes and adapt to long-term change.  Researchers are working with planners and policy makers to address critical infrastructure, transportation, energy, and other issues important to the built environment.  What are the issues of highest interest to planners and risk managers in the public and private sectors?  What research-engagement is being done to meet their practical needs?  What are we learning about the socio-economic benefits of planning for extremes and public perceptions about risk management?

This session will explore best practices and examples of scientists engaging directly with decision makers to address these issues.
