V51B:
A Perfect Match: Bringing Together Models of Geodynamics and Thermodynamics to Understand Geochemical and Petrological Observations Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 50165
Session Description:
Interpreting geochemical and petrological data in terms of physical processes in the subsurface remains a great challenge in Earth Sciences. One way towards a better understanding lies in combining physical models of geodynamic processes with thermodynamic models of petrological and geochemical processes.
The goal of these models is to predict petrological and geochemical signatures to test against data, and to refine questions being asked of natural systems. However, building such models poses significant challenges. Apart from being formidable tasks in their own right, the geodynamic and thermodynamic model components are often developed by different communities and on different platforms.
This session aims to bring together investigators working on integrating geochemistry, petrology, and geodynamics through computational methods. We encourage the submission of abstracts concerned both with model methodology, as well as with model use in studying how field and laboratory observations may point to physical processes in the subsurface.
